Yellow Cab's Charlie Chan Chicken Pasta

Yellow Cab's Charlie Chan Chicken Pasta

I have a bit of obsession with plates. I love buying them, but don't really know where to store them. And most recently, cute pasta dishes caught my eye more than anything else. And in one sweep, there they are, 5 different colored pasta bowls. *squeal with delight*. You've seen prolly 2-3 of them already from previous blog posts for I use them for almost everything, even for cereals!

For a change, I want to give justice to this particular yellow cutie with my version Yellow Cab's Charlie Chan Chicken Pasta.

It's easy- know more after the jump! =)

Okonomiyaki- Japanese Sizzling pancake

Okonomiyaki- Japanese Sizzling pancake

This is actually my friend David's recipe. But the end product doesn't look like it at all.

Please don't get mad if i made a little too many alterations to the original one. Though, I mussay, the end product is really fantastic! Taste a lot like Takoyaki balls that has been popping up left and right- (but disappearing as fast too:( ) only better.

They're super simple and filling. Makes a great 1-dish meal when you're too tired to cook. Use the basic recipe for the pancake, then when it's about to be cooked, add in whatever topping you like. I used bacon and a whole egg here. But you can add shrimps, ham, assorted veggies like beansprouts, carrots, or even chicken pieces.

How i cheated: I did not have the bonito flakes- thus I used shredded crispee pork (prok floss/ ma-hu) and instead of

Baked Fish with Cherry Tomatoes

Baked Fish with Cherry Tomatoes

This dish is very close to one of my most favorite dishes ever- the Parmesan Crusted Baked Fish from Cookbook Kitchen (they have 3 branches now- 1 in Mandaluyong, 1 in Eastwood and 1 in Pampanga). And making something similar proved to be a bit of a challenge at first. It wasn't the taste, or the texture that I couldn't perfect at first. It was that- my baked fish came out watery every time. And then, I tried this trick that allowed me to make the most perfect baked fish every single time!

Check out the photos as guide on your next baked fish, and get the recipe after the jump =)
Sear till it changes color, but not quite cooked.

Transfer to bakeware, smother with the dressing and topping.

Scatter cherry tomatoes and pop in the oven.

Bake and serve! =)

(Not) Fried Chicken

(Not) Fried Chicken

I speak for a big universe when I say that even once in our lives, especially the first few parts of it, that Fried Chicken is everyone's favorite. It's a no-brainer, basic, tasty dish. Unfortunately, our doctors might not agree. Fried foods, they say aren't really the healthiest stuff. Thus begins the quest to marry the 2.

Presenting the (Not) Fried Chicken. It's baked to perfection, and the use of Cornflakes and toasted crushed croutons gives the much needed crisp. Another thing good about these also is that it's great even right off the fridge, since it does not contain saturated fats that freezes when cold making the chicken tough. These babies are soft and moist even when cold.

Tuna Poke Sashimi

Tuna Poke Sashimi

That much wasabi??? =D

Ain't so. It's guacamole. And you'd be surprised at how tuna sashimi and avocados go super well together.

Made this for my dad's birthday. We decided to celebrate at home this time since my grandpa rarely dines out anymore- much more so at night. For any dinner, even simple weekend dinners, I usually plan our menu just to make sure they all sound and look right together. But for this particular evening, my mom decided to make a surprise and I wouldn't tell anyone what I was making either. Thus, we ended up with a really funny menu which was not coherent at all. There's the traditional heirloom misua, Kare-kare (Filipino oxtail peanut curry stew), super yummy Fried Chicken and this Tuna Poke Sashimi. Not coherent, but whatever, as long as everything's super yummy and we had fun =)

I got inspiration for this tuna poke from my super favorite food site- yumsugar.com, adjusting according to whatever's available in my cupboard. Read on on how to make them.

Thai Green Curry

Thai Green Curry

This recipe is for cheaters. =p Or as I call them- busy culinary folks, who refuse to eat instant meals yet do not exactly have the time to grind peanuts and do everything from scratch.

Thus brings us to the wonderful world of ready-mix sauces =)

There are quite a few options of Thai Green Curry pastes available at the local grocery, and I've tried most of them- mixing them up with either chicken, pork or just veggies. They're basically similar to each other. But most, if not all, are SPI-I-I-ICY. Might be good if you like 'em hot, but careful if you're not a big fan of chili. And if that's the case, just put half pack first, then adjust to taste. You can easily add coconut cream and other spices to make this dish as incredible and full-flavored. Smoked Salmon and Wild Mushroom Risotto

Smoked Salmon and Wild Mushroom Risotto

The quest for the soft diet food is a bit of a challenge. My dad has been undergoing some major dental work and the dentist recommended (more of required) him to go on a 6-month soft-diet- which has already extended to over a year. I've tried so many recipes (which I shall find time to share each of them) to make sure he still gets really tasty, nutrient-packed meals. I've mastered one-pot soup meals, but here is, apparently one of his favorite dishes yet. Recipe after the jump =)

Cure-all Spicy Minestrone Soup

Cure-all Spicy Minestrone Soup

I came back a few weeks ago from a 4 day trip to a sick mom. I've been teasing her that she missed me too much. aaawwww. LOL. In reality though- or so she claims, she got the terrible colds and flu from me! Admittedly, I was a bit sick before I left with a bad case of colds, but quickly dosed up on the vit. C just to make sure I am well for my trip. Anyhow, my mission then was to make her well in the quickest way possible and I sure do hope this helps.

Good ole fashioned chicken noodle soup for the colds is comforting, but try this deviation next time you're curing something. The spiciness helps clogged noses a lot too, plus it's loaded with vegetables which can only give you much needed additional nutrients.

The verdict: Mom's well =) Learn how to do this after the jump.
